Massive Crackdown on Odisha Police SI Exam Sabotage
A major recruitment scandal has been uncovered in Odisha with the Odisha Police SI exam sabotage case. A total of 119 people were arrested in Berhampur for their alleged involvement. The action was described as one of the largest recruitment-related crackdowns in recent years.
The accused were detained in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district late Monday night. They were reportedly being taken to Hyderabad for a suspicious coaching programme. The arrests included 117 aspirants and two middlemen suspected of running the fraud.
Buses Intercepted After Intelligence Input
The operation was led by Berhampur police in close coordination with the Crime Branch. The action followed a late-night intelligence tip-off about unusual candidate movement. Acting on the alert, police teams intercepted multiple buses heading towards Hyderabad.
The buses were carrying Odisha-based aspirants linked to the SI exam sabotage case. All detainees were transported back to Berhampur for overnight interrogation. Following questioning, 119 formal arrests were confirmed, and court production is expected today.
Rs 25 Lakh Bribe for Guaranteed Selection
Reports indicated that the Hyderabad centre was not a regular coaching facility. Instead, it allegedly functioned as a planned setup to influence the recruitment exam. Sources revealed that aspirants were asked to pay up to Rs 25 lakh.
The payment was reportedly offered in return for guaranteed selection in the SI exam. Two middlemen from Odisha were caught for recruiting aspirants into the racket. They were also suspected of facilitating the interstate travel of the candidates.
Deeper Malpractices Suspected in Odisha SI Exam
The police have not revealed the identity of those managing the Hyderabad programme. However, early investigation points towards a larger, deep-rooted malpractice network. Officials hinted that the scam may have spread beyond Odisha to other states.
Evidence has been collected, but details of the masterminds remain undisclosed. The involvement of professional exam manipulators is being carefully probed. Authorities believe several candidates outside the 119 may also be linked to the scam.
OPRB Postpones Combined Police Service Examination
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) responded immediately after the arrests. The Board acknowledged illegal activities linked to the Odisha Police SI exam sabotage. As a preventive step, the written exam scheduled for October 5 and 6 was postponed.
Fresh exam dates will be announced after the investigation gains more clarity. A special helpline (9040493223) has been launched for candidates and citizens. The helpline will allow suspicious recruitment activity to be reported without fear.
Strong Warning Issued Against Recruitment Malpractice
In its official statement, the OPRB condemned bribery and cheating during recruitment. The Board clarified that any malpractice during exams would be treated as a crime. Candidates were warned of strict action if found guilty of unfair means.
The recent arrests are being seen as the first major breakthrough in the scandal. Initial estimates suggest more than 150 aspirants were on their way to Hyderabad. Out of them, 119 were booked after interrogation confirmed their role in the scheme.
Public Outrage Over Recruitment Scam
Public anger has grown after the Odisha Police SI exam sabotage case came to light. Many citizens expressed disappointment that deserving candidates were cheated. Parents of genuine aspirants have called for strict punishment of those involved.
Civil society members urged authorities to ensure transparent recruitment in the Odisha Police. The issue has also raised questions about the accountability of recruitment processes. Recruitment scams have often damaged public trust in government institutions.
Way Forward in the Odisha SI Exam Sabotage Case
Investigations are continuing to trace the masterminds behind the exam manipulation racket. Police officials are working to identify financial trails linked to the Rs 25 lakh bribes. The interrogation of middlemen is expected to provide crucial leads in the coming days.
Authorities are planning stronger monitoring measures for future recruitment exams. Digital tracking, biometric authentication, and AI-based monitoring are being discussed. The aim is to prevent malpractice and restore fairness in competitive exams.
