The lane-driving awareness initiative starts in Bhubaneswar to boost road discipline.
A lane-driving awareness campaign has been launched in Bhubaneswar this week. The campaign was initiated by the Commissionerate Police at Jayadev Vihar Square. Proper lane discipline was promoted to reduce traffic congestion and road mishaps. The pilot drive was supervised by Traffic DCP Tapan Mohanty on-site.
Commuters were sensitized about the importance of staying within designated lanes. The focus was kept on educating drivers through real-time engagement and monitoring. Traffic cones were used to barricade one lane on each side of the road. This tactic was aimed at encouraging disciplined movement and better road behavior. Improper lane-changing has been identified as a major cause of accidents. Lack of lane-driving awareness among commuters was highlighted by traffic officials.
The awareness drive was carried out with full cooperation from traffic personnel. Initial results will decide the expansion to more traffic-prone intersections.
The campaign hopes to reduce delays during Bhubaneswar’s peak traffic hours. A smoother flow of vehicles is expected with better lane discipline in place. Roads like the Jayadev Vihar to Damana Square stretch may see quick relief. If successful, the initiative will extend to Patia and Acharya Vihar crossings.
Authorities have stressed the importance of obeying India’s lane-specific rules.
Left lanes are reserved for slower vehicles like autos and two-wheelers. Middle lanes suit cars maintaining moderate and legal speeds. Right lanes are meant for overtaking or fast-moving vehicles only. Heavy vehicles must avoid the right lane unless overtaking is necessary.
This campaign is expected to bring long-term benefits to Bhubaneswar commuters.
